Sculpture is a form of public art which is 3-dimensional in design that is created by combing and/or shaping any variety of materials, hard or soft. One such material used in sculpture is bronze, as in Rodin‘s “The Thinker.” Also, sculptures may be figurative, such as replicating a human or animal form, as in Michelangelo‘s “Pieta“ and “David.” Some sculptures may even be so large that they can be found outdoor, as in many works by Henry Moore. The modern sculpture artists named here are famous for their skills in creating awe-inspiring sculpture.

Artist Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, better known as Michelangelo, is famous for his beautiful figurative sculptures “Pieta” and “David.” Michelangelo entered the world on March 6, 1475 in Caprese, Tuscany. He created his artwork during the time period known as the High Renaissance movement, the time period between 1450 and 1527. Michelangelo’s “Pieta,” completed in 1495 and “David,” completed in 1504, are characteristic of sculpture during the High Renaissance, displaying the balance between static and the movement of the life-like figures. Michelangelo also was an apprentice to artist Domenico Ghirlandaio. Although wealthy, he lived life as of a poor man and at the age of 88, Michelangelo passed away in Rome on February 18, 1564 where he was designing the cupola drum of Saint Peter’s.

Auguste Rodin, an artist greatly inspired by the works of Michelangelo, is famed for his figurative bronze sculpture “The Thinker” and other works during the Bronze Age. Rodin was born on November 12, 1840 in Paris, France. His first full-scale work, “The Age of Bronze,” completed in 1877, baffled people due to the fact that there was no historical or religious significance of the work. Rodin was accused of surmoulage, or taking a cast from a living model, due to the realistic nature of his masterpiece. As a result, Rodin’s next work-of-art, “St. John the Baptist Preaching,” was created larger-than-life at 6 feet 7 inches tall. Later, between 1879 and 1889, Rodin’s most famed work-of-art, “The Thinker,” was completed as part of “The Gates of Hell.” “The Gates of Hell” was commissioned in 1880 as a portal for the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris. The work, “The Gates of Hell,” was never completed. Other bronze works from Rodin include “The Burghers of Calais,” which was displayed outdoor in 1889. On November 17, 1917, at the age of 77, Auguste Rodin died as a world-famous bronze sculpture artist.

Another great bronze sculptor is Henry Moore, an English sculptor, who is famous for his larger-than-life abstract outdoor sculptures. Henry Moore was born on July 30, 1898 in Castleford, West Yorkshire, England. At the tender age of eleven, Moore became inspired by the works of Michelangelo to become a sculptor himself. Moore’s earlier works were inspired by the Victorian style. He later got tired of the classical ideals and became influenced by the primitive style of direct carving. In July of 1929, Henry Moore married Irina Radetsky, a painting student at the Royal College of Art where he was teaching. Moore then made a gradual transition from direct carving to bronze casting. The artist’s wife suffered many miscarriages which eventually resulted in a great new inspiration for his artwork, the birth of their daughter in March of 1946. The result was many bronze mother-and-child sculptures. Henry Moore is mostly known for his outdoor reclining figures, such as “Reclining Figure,” an abstract female figure which was completed in 1951. Another typical work-of-art by Henry Moore is the bronze “Die Liegende” located in Stuttgart. Moore’s bronze works were cast using the lost wax technique. After being a major contributor to Modernism and creating many reclining figures into the 1980’s, Henry Moore passed away in Much Hadham, East Hertfordshire, England on August 31, 1986 at the age of 88.

Each famous modern sculpture artists discussed here lives on in their amazing, aesthetically appealing, master-pieces. The very famous figurative sculpture artist, Michelangelo, appears to have been the greatest influence on both Auguste Rodin and Henry Moore. Auguste Rodin, influenced by Michelangelo’s figurative sculpture, used the medium of bronze to become one of the world’s most famous bronze roman sculpture artists. Michelangelo also influenced the world-famous outdoor sculpture artist Henry Moore, who incorporated bronze figures in his works. The art of sculpture is certainly a very diverse and intertwined theme.

Ancient Egyptian statues for sale come from a time when these beautiful works of art were once the important possessions of wealthy Egyptians and Egyptian royalty. Now we see them as priceless. How many have vanished in the sands of time we don’t know. We know that a few have survived to be called ancient Egyptian artifacts. That’s what they are, whether they are in an Egyptian gifts shop or in an Egyptian British museum.

Few people realize that the ancient Egyptian statues for sale are essentially a window on the past that individuals can own, decorate with and even celebrate with. The ancient Greek statues reveal the gods who were feared and revered by the Egyptian people. They show the beauty of women regarded as queens or gods. They show the animal-nature of the gods and the regal lives of the ancient kings.

The beautiful Bastet statue brings us the cat as a god, able to change lives on its whim. Of course, some prefer the Sphinx; the cat-like image associated most with ancient Egypt. Black Scarabs are also among the ancient Egyptian statues for sale in Egyptian gifts shop. These decorative beetles represented the worldly life that the sun god gave to man. They were kept as talismans against problems and given as tokens of affection.

There is Isis, a generous and beautiful goddess, who was patron to the down-trodden. Sometimes she is portrayed with Open Wings. There is the dramatic Horus Falcon. He still makes one tremble today, perhaps due to his status as god of vengeance. Perhaps it is because he is so often portrayed in ancient Egyptian statues for sale with a falcon-head and a strong human body. Then there is Anubis, portrayed with a jackal head. He is often misunderstood as simply the god of death. In fact, many Egyptians regarded him as god of the living because he assured people of an after-life.

These treasures can be found along with other ancient Egyptian artifacts that celebrate the royalty who themselves were thought of as gods. The beautiful queens, Nefertiti and Cleopatra, are often among the ancient Greek statues found in Egyptian British museum and among the ancient Egyptian statues for sale in Egyptian gifts shop. The King Tut statues and coffin boxes reminds us of the glory of Egypt, the great tombs and pyramids that housed the treasures of Kings.

Ancient Egyptian statues for sale sometimes represent the great architecture of the past. There is the pyramid with its reach to the skies. There is the pyramid, tomb of the kings and protector of the king’s enormous burial treasure. Often there are hieroglyphics, the symbolic language which has allowed translators to reveal to us the secrets of these treasures.

There are three distinct periods in the history of ancient Greek statues: Archaic, classical and Hellenistic. Most of the ancient Greek art sculptures were created out of marble or bronze and were monuments to the shape of the body. They are considered culturally important because of the way the Greeks captured the stories of their gods, heroes, customs and culture in ancient sculptures gallery.

Though many of the original statues were destroyed or lost over the years, there are plenty of examples of the Greek workmanship, particularly in some of the famous ancient sculptures gallery around the world.

Ancient Greek Sculpture in the Archaic Period

The archaic period of ancient Greek sculpture lasted from 600 B.C. to 480 B.C. and largely resembled earlier Egyptian works with its geometric planes and stiff poses. The most famous classical Greek sculptures are the Kouros (male) and Kore (female) statues that were often modeled from state-sponsored subjects.

This is the time period where secularism started to sneak into ancient Greek sculpture with evidence that artist and patron names started being recorded on the art itself.

Ancient Greek Sculpture in the Classical Period

The classical period is one of the most widely recognized ancient Greek art sculptures. More natural poses and a variety in subjects are paramount to this period. Stone and bronze became more popular material choices during this time shown in surviving ancient Greek sculpture. Recognizing and capturing the way human muscles moved was essentially to ancient Greek statues’ more dynamic poses.

Some of the most famous ancient Greek sculptures from the classical period include Zeus (or Poisidon) of Artemision, Youth of Marathon and The Diadoumenos. Ancient Greek sculpture of the classical period may have concentrated on movement but faces of the ancient Greek statues were mostly stoic – it was believed only barbarians showed their emotions in public. Mankind was shown in an idealistic way in ancient Greek art sculptures and both sexes were often nude during this period of ancient Greek sculpture.

Ancient Greek Sculpture in the Hellenistic Period

Many people do not see a difference between the ancient Greek sculpture of the classical period and the ancient Greek art sculptures that are from the Hellenistic period because both show a freedom in the form of man and are often nudes. However, as Greek culture itself became more diverse and influenced by cultures the Greeks interacted with, so did the ancient Greek sculpture at the time.

Common people – women, children and animals – becoming suitable subjects is a key characteristic of ancient Greek statues of this time and these are some of the most famous ancient Greek statues.

Ancient Greek sculptures have a long history, spanning over 800 years. Any body sculpture artists would be lying if they said they were not, in some way, influenced by the body art sculpture of the Ancient Greeks. The body sculpture created by the Ancient Greeks is classified into three distinct periods – the Archaic period (8th century BC to 5th century BC), Classical period (5th century BC to 4th century BC), and Hellenistic period (4th century BC to 1st century BC). Ancient Greek sculptures of the Classical and Hellenistic periods directly influenced Roman sculpture and even modern western sculpture today.

Archaic Period

The first period of ancient Greek sculptures was influenced by the body art sculpture of the Ancient Egyptians. The ancient Egyptians first brought body art sculpture to prominence by emphasizing perfection of the human form. Even so, the ancient Greek sculptures of the time were considered unnatural and rigid. The body sculpture of this time is criticized for showing that they were assembled in pieces. These statues are today called Kouros (for male) and Kore (for female). They are known for their subjects standing tall and erect, looking straight ahead with arms at the sides. A modern body sculpture artists will rarely use the Kouros and Kore form of ancient Greek sculptures.

Classical Period

The Classical period of ancient Greek sculptures begins with the defeat of the Persians at Marathon. This military victory led to giving the body sculpture artists a sense of optimism and with it, an urge to bring realism to body sculpture. The advancement of this period in ancient Greek sculptures is the contrapposto stance, in which one leg of the subject is extended to convey a shift in weight and the presence of gravity. An example of the contrapposto stance of Classical ancient Greek sculptures is Discobolos by the body sculpture artist, Myron. The Discus Thrower shows the tension of his position and the effects of gravity on him. Myron cast the original in bronze instead of the marble that is popularized in reproductions of ancient Greek sculptures.

Hellenistic Period

The Hellenistic period of ancient Greek sculptures lasts up to the Roman invasion of Greece in the 1st Century BC. The expansion of the Greek empire at this time is responsible for the widespread influence of Greek body art sculpture. This period is known for vastly improving upon the poses and dynamic movement begun in the Classical period of ancient Greek sculptures. The masterpiece of this period is considered the Nike of Samothrace body sculpture. The dynamic of movement is so precise that the wind blowing through the feathers of the wings and the folds of the clothing can be seen with unimaginable detail.

Bronze has great value in the art world of sculptures. When setting in a mold, bronze will slightly expand and fill in the finest details. Many extraordinary bronze sculpture statues have been created throughout history; however due to the strength of bronze most have not been allowed to survive. Far more ancient stone and ceramic statues exist today even though they are cracked or in fragments. Most of the larger bronze sculpture statues were melted down for weapons during times of war and lost as a part of history. The bronze alloy used both in ancient and modern times is very similar consisting of 90% copper and 10% tin.

The ancient Greeks were the first to use bronze to create life size statues. One of these antique bronze sculptures still exists. It is known as “The Victorious Athlete”.

The creating of bronze sculpture art is a highly skilled talent. The strength of bronze allows the sculpture to create things impossible using other mediums such as stone. The look of a bronze sculpture or bronze statue gives a person the feeling of history and longevity and it also makes the person to buy bronze sculpture. Each piece of the art is unique due to the creation process. The process is time consuming and requires many steps. The artist’s vision is first created in wood or clay to create a mold. The mold is then filled with wax to fine tune the creation and the mold. The wax figure is coated in a ceramic solution and covered with sand. Once hardened, the wax is then melted and the mold is strengthened through this process. The mold is now ready for the melted bronze. After the bronze has cooled and become solid in the mold, the mold is broken open and thrown away. The artist then works at refining and finishing the bronze sculpture statue. A patina can be applied to immediately recreate the natural coloring process that will happen over time.

Before we buy bronze sculpture we need to make sure that each bronze sculpture for sale has a certificate with it identifying it as an original. No other bronze sculpture art should exist exactly like this one. This certification process is to protect the artist and the art lover from copies and misrepresentations. If you are in the market to find bronze sculpture, make sure you work with the artist directly or a reputable art gallery to ensure the quality of the sculpture for your enjoyment.

Large metal wall art is a unique form of decoration, in that it is both modern and classic. Perfect for any space, contemporary wall decor sculpture is an excellent decorative touch for home and business. Abstract metal wall art makes a perfect accessory for modern offices, outdoor parks, city apartments and more. Outdoor metal wall art can form the bases of a fountain or create the illusion of special separation without a real wall. Whether in a building or the great outdoors, the ability of wall decor sculpture to define a space is unparalleled.

Large Metal Wall Art Decorates with Elegance

The color variety in large metal wall art is almost unlimited. From silver to bronze, gold tones to antique finishes, there is a metal or painted finish to meet any decorating challenge. Such large metal wall hangings can adorn a traditional family room, Victorian living room, even a library or office space. Particularly large metal wall art can make an excellent statement above the fireplace mantel, especially when designed with ornately woven designs that compliment the rest of the room’s decor.

Strategic use of outdoor metal wall art can add elegance to outdoor spaces as well. Iron large metal wall hangings; in particular, makes a beautiful traditional addition to a screened lanai or patio. Outdoor metal wall art can even be hung against a backdrop of bricks for a unique fountain design, or suspended from an archway or gazebo for a stunning window effect.

Using Large Metal Wall Art to Create Edginess

The more modern and eclectic decorator can use large metal wall hangings as an excellent way to bring the outdoors in and the indoors out. For example, wrought iron is often associated with exterior gates and garden fences. By bringing such a piece of outdoor metal wall art into the house a room is instantly brightened with old world garden charm. Similarly, a vibrantly painted piece of contemporary metal wall art, the likes that one might usually associate with a family room or bedroom can be a surprising addition to a gazebo, screened porch or outdoor kitchen. By mixing it up and avoiding the mundane, large metal wall art can create a unique look in any room, in any home.

The use of abstract metal wall art can also help to bring a bit of whimsy and individuality to a room. Particularly effective when juxtaposed against a more traditional decorating scheme, abstract metal wall art can be a welcome bit of style and help to inject something different into what might otherwise be predictable.

The Unparalleled Style of Large Metal Wall Art

Whether the space is small or large, traditional or contemporary, large metal wall hangings can make a statement beyond what any photograph or painting can accomplish. From the crisp color of contemporary metal wall art to the aged patina of copper outdoor metal wall decor sculpture, for impact, style and beauty, nothing beats large metal wall art.

Capturing the love that is shared between the mother and child is a beautiful reminder of the unique love between them. Here we discuss some of the wonders of this form of art.

When a child is formed in a mother’s womb there is a bond that begins to grow that can never be broken. Cutting the umbilical cord can never sever a mother’s love from her child. This embodiment of love between a mother and child and their relationship is something that has been created by artists time and time again in mother and child statues and their family sculpture the world over. Capturing the love that is shared between the mother and child is a beautiful reminder of the unique love between them. A mother holding her child in her arms or holding the hand of the child as they walk along are just a few of the beautiful shared moments in mother children sculpture.

A simple mother’s hand poised to reach out to touch the cheek of the child speaks volumes and captures the essence of a love that is always reaching, touching and embracing. The caring eyes that look upon her child in the sculpted figurine can embody all of the thoughts that any mother has for her own children: Will the world be kind to my child? Will my child one day have children of their own to love? What does the future hold in store for my beloved child?

There are many mother children sculptures that depict this relationship and many other mother and child statues, but none are as famous as the Madonna and baby Jesus. This sculpture was made famous by Michelangelo’s “Pieta” Statue Sculpture Madonna Jesus. We have embraced this mother and child statue as our symbol of complete and utter devotion, a mother who has sacrificed and given up her own world for the sake of her child.

What mother wouldn’t embrace a mother and child statute for her own curio cabinet or mantel? Surely any woman who has given birth to a child would adore looking upon the statue of her beloved child, sculpted and forever captured, frozen in time just like the love that exists deep within her mother’s heart. A mother’s memories are her most precious possessions that she will cherish for all of her life.

It has been said that there is no depth to the love from a mother to her child. There is no distance so vast that it cannot be traversed and nothing that can ever truly sever the connection that a mother has with her child. What better way that to forever embody that love then in a family sculpture? Capture the connection and savor the bonds that neither time nor distance can ever sever.

The next time that you are wondering what gift to give to a mother in your life, think of the gift of a family sculpture. It is the one precious gift that will warm a mother’s heart.

Whether you are looking for decorative statuettes for your home or office, religious statuettes to create a spiritual space, or a mini statuette to give as a unique gift, you will easily find mini statuettes for sale online. Here are some ideas from a world-renowned Sculpturess.

Sculpture has been a vital part of artistic and religious traditions worldwide for many centuries, and modern manufacturing has made small statuettes affordable and readily available. Whether you are looking for decorative statuettes for your home or office, religious statuettes to create a spiritual space, or a mini statuette to give as a unique gift, you will easily find mini statuettes for sale online.

Statuettes can be made from many different materials. They can be carved from wood or stone, cast in metals such as bronze or pewter, made of plaster, fired clay, ceramic, or glass materials, or in many cases today, a mold is created and the statuettes are made of resin. They may be left unpainted, painted by hand, or colored in the process of manufacturing. Mini statuettes can be found to suit anyone’s taste and to enhance any decor.

If you need religious statuettes, you can find Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Native American figures. In the Christian tradition, you will find figures of Catholic saints, small sculptures of Jesus, Mary and other Biblical figures, crèche scenes and more. In the Jewish tradition, you may find Bat Mitzvah figurines, rabbis in various poses, or Moses with the stone tablets. Buddha is a frequent subject of sculptors and other Hindu statuettes might include Shiva, Ganesh, Lakshmi or similar religious figures. Finding small statuettes or small sculptures to give as gifts for religious ceremonies such as first communion, confirmation, Bat Mitzvah, weddings or other events is often an appropriate way to commemorate a special religious event.

Statuettes or small sculptures are not confined to religious subjects. Animals are a favorite subject and everything from wild animals to domesticated animals can be found in small statuettes. If you raise Great Danes, you can find Great Dane statuettes for sale. Cats, frogs, roosters, and ducks – a myriad of animals can be found to add to your surroundings. You may even be able to personalize your animal statuette with a name or date and that can be a great way of preserving the memory of a loved pet, or for creating a personalized gift for a pet-loving friend.

Other favorite small statuette themes are children, mothers and fathers with children, lovers, friends, historical figures, musical instruments, houses and Victorian statuettes. If a friend has moved into a new Victorian-style home, a statuette of an old-fashioned house could be a lovely memento as a housewarming present. If your daughter graduates from college, a small statuette of a college graduate can be a unique gift.

Think of small statuettes as gifts for holidays all year round. Whether it’s Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Graduation, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas or any other special holiday, you will find small statuettes for sale that would make very memorable gifts. In addition to the holidays we all celebrate, there are personal days such as birthdays and anniversaries that will create the perfect setting to give mini statuettes as gifts. Allow your imagination to roam free and you will find statuettes to suit the person and the occasion.
