It was the special wish of the archbishop of Salzburg to install a "Pieta" of Anna Chromy in the southern arches of the cathedral, so that he can admire it from the windows of his residence.

It was upon the initiative of the municipality and the newly created Salzburg Foundation that a lifesize sculpture of Herbert von Karajan was installed in front of his birthplace in the center of the old town opposite the famous Sacher Hotel. The monument was inaugurated in presence of Eliette von Karajan, the Major of Salzburg and the President of the Salzburg Festival, Mrs. Rabl-Stadler.
